wildlife Tracking and trailing club

for 9-14 year olds

Have you ever gone on a hike and wondered where all the wildlife is? In Kestrel’s Tracking and Trailing class, children will find and observe prints and other clues a variety of animals leave behind. They will use deductive reasoning to interpret animal behavior, learn how to formulate their own questions that will lead them to the species identification, and train their eyes in pattern recognition so they can follow an animal’s trail across the landscape. We will practice sneaky movement to observe animals.

Once you learn tracking and trailing skills, you start to realize that there is so much more wildlife in your local woodlands and even your backyards than you ever imagined. You will start to see signs of animals everywhere, and with practice, you will start seeing much more wildlife, too.

This class uses child centered learning and inquiry techniques and is led by a certified tracker. Your kids are pretty much guaranteed not to come home as clean as they were when you dropped them off.

This is a drop -off club, but there are opportunities for parents to volunteer and join the learning adventure.

This club is 100% outdoors in all weather, with portable toilet access as our only restroom. Come in layers when weather may be cool. Hazardous weather or heavy rain cancels.
